Turn the Page

Here we are, on the road again…We went through Page, Arizona a few years ago to get to the Grand Canyon. It was so beautiful that we stopped briefly to take pictures of Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. We told ourselves that we would be back and spend some time exploring the area. You can see that post here. We finally made it back.

Below is a partial view of Lake Powell from our campsite.

Lake Powell

We rented a pontoon boat for the day and explored the lake. It is huge with a lot of nooks and crannies.

Last years drought really had an impact on water levels here. See the white line in the mountain below where the water is normally? This was a drop of more than 50%.

We got up before the sun to get a picture of the famous Horseshoe Bend. Horseshoe Bend is sometimes referred to as the “east rim of the Grand Canyon.” The Colorado River has carved out this odd shape over millions of years.

Scott got a round of golf in at Lake Powell National Golf Course. Scenic view of the Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell, and city of Page in the distance.

  1. Lake Powell is beautiful, had no idea it was near the canyon. Wow!
Are you still in Castroville? Hooe all is good for you guys and you are staying healthy and safe.
    Love you,
    Casper abd Glynda

    1. Hi Glynda, We are still in Castroville and will be until mid-March. Scott is playing golf 4x a week, so he is in paradise. We are good. Just hibernating for the winter until we start traveling again. Love you both!!!

  2. We went to Lake Powell two summers ago. Yes, it is so beautiful. We took the tou boat so we could see everything you could not see from land. It is breathtaking. It is so bad to see it
so low. I know they are taking water from several rivers since there has not been much rain. The lake services water to several states so the level of water is imperative. I do hope we will make a return trip soon. My son that lives in Colorado rents a houseboat on Lake Powell and camps and plays on the lake for a week about every 2 years. I am so afraid of heights; I could not begin to climb to the areas you have taken photos from. Even when I was young and was able to climb, I could not do it. Again, I say you are so fortunate to see all the states
traveling in your beautiful motorhome. I sure miss ours. Have more fun and be safe.

    1. Hi Sue, Hope you and Ed are doing well. Love Lake Powell. Hope the water level goes up. The drought is really hurting a lot of lakes and water supply for the western states. Scott and I are fortunate to be able to do this. We are very thankful and never forget how lucky we are. Take care.
