Hiking Bandelier and Tent Rocks

We met a couple while in Albuquerque who told us about the “tent rocks” at Kasha-Katuwe just outside of Santa Fe. We decided to check it out and man were we glad. The views were spectacular and it’s amazing that nature is responsible for these formations. Some were pretty cool, but others reminded us of something we just couldn’t place…what do you think?

The hikes at Bandelier National Monument were already on our list of things to do and we enjoyed them as well. We first hiked a trail called Tsankawi which involved climbing a couple ladders…

We later hiked the Fry Trail and the Main Loop which led us to the Alcove House.

You must climb 140 ft above the canyon floor using a series of ladders to reach the Alcove House where approx 25 Ancestral Pueblo people once lived.

On to Durango, CO.

    1. We’re having alot of fun. Chaco Canyon is not on our list this time around for NM, but we will make note for next time. Thanks for the tip.

  1. Wow how beautiful. I could not have done this hike because i am so fearful of heights so I am happy you shared these beautiful
photos. You are getting to see so many beautiful sights and what a beautiful time of the year to explore.
Yes do not miss Chaco Canyon when you are back in the area again. Also you might want to take in Chimney Rock which is between Durango and Pagosa Springs. Also the hot springs in Pagosa are wonderful.
Be safe and continue to enjoy and send photos.

    1. We did get to Chimney Rock and Pagosa Springs. Post to follow. Thank you so much for your travel tips during our stay, we both appreciated them. I saw the email you sent about all the happenings in Durango and there is always something to do. A fabulous place. If you wish to forward the blog link to your friends who will be visiting, please go right ahead. I am so sorry we did’t get meet up while we were in Durango. But we will be back and I hope we can visit then.
