Temple Square

Temple Square is a 10-acre complex, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), in the center of Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1847, when Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley, LDS Church president Brigham Young selected a plot of the desert ground and proclaimed, “Here we will build a temple to our God.”

The Brigham Young Monument (or Pioneer Monument) is a bronzed historical monument, erected in honor of pioneer-colonizer, Utah governor, and LDS Church president Brigham Young who led the Mormon pioneers into the Utah Territory.

Salt Lake Temple is considered the house of God and is reserved for special ceremonies for practicing Latter-Day Saints. The main ordinance rooms are used during the endowment and, washing and anointing ceremonies. The temple also serves as a place for marriage sealing ceremonies for live and deceased persons. Unless you are a practicing Mormon, you may not enter the temple.

Attracting 3 million to 5 million visitors a year, Temple Square is the most popular tourist attraction in Utah, bringing in more visitors than the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone National Park.

We will definitely come back to Utah. There are five national parks in Utah that we were unable to visit this trip.

  1. Wow how beautiful. Hope you are having great weather in Utah. My son in Durango said they are DRY NO Snow
so maybe you are not in a snow area now. I am not sure about you, but I would not treasure the idea of driving
a motorhome on snowey/ice roads. Be safe. I will look forwrad to your next blog.

    1. We are well away from the snow. (We are far behind in our posts). We have been in NV then AZ since Mid-October. We don’t want to drive in snow either, so we got the heck out of Idaho and Utah. We really want to get back to UT sometime, when it’s warmer, to enjoy the beautiful National Parks.
