The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The name “Smoky” comes from the natural fog that often hangs over the range and presents as large smoke plumes from a distance. This fog is caused by the vegetation exhaling volatile organic compounds as well as pollution.

While we were there it was cold and rainy. Some of the roads to high peaks were still closed due to ice and snow. We want to come back during warmer weather to enjoy this wonderful place.
